About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Card Scheme Financial Officer to join our Business function. This role focuses on establishing and driving robust card scheme financial processes from scratch across Mastercard and Visa, covering both Issuing and Acquiring.
The role will also be responsible for building and developing the card scheme’s financial function from the ground up, including setting up operating processes, defining responsibilities, and gradually building the required team and internal capabilities.
This is a highly impactful role, as it includes managing all aspects of interchange fees, scheme fees, and service fees across different niches, including high-risk and low-risk segments, as well as client tariff models. The role is pivotal to ensuring the integrity, profitability, and scalability of Maayan’s business operations.
The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of card scheme financials and card scheme regulations, particularly Visa and Mastercard. The candidate should also be comfortable working closely with card schemes, maintaining day-to-day communication with Visa and Mastercard representatives, and supporting scheme-related initiatives, clarifications, and operational matters. Knowledge of UK and EU EMI regulations is a nice-to-have, along with a strong track record in the payments industry in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
Key Responsibilities
Card Schemes Financials
- Own and drive merchant pricing strategy across products and markets, ensuring competitiveness and alignment with business objectives.
- Build, own, and continuously refine unit economics models, with clear visibility on profitability across merchants, products, and payment methods.
- Establish and develop the card scheme’s financial function from scratch, including operating processes, internal ownership model, reporting routines, and required team structure.
- Gradually build, manage, and develop the team required to support card scheme financial operations at scale.
- Support strategic initiatives from a card scheme perspective, primarily with Visa and Mastercard.
- Act as a key point of interaction with Visa and Mastercard on scheme financials, fees, billing, rules interpretation, operational clarifications, and scheme-related initiatives.
- Monitor, interpret, and implement evolving card scheme fee structures, financial rules, and regulatory requirements.
- Support Maayan’s geographic expansion by providing insights on pricing optimization and scheme fee impact.
- Reconcile transaction volumes against scheme invoices, identify discrepancies, and analyze interchange and scheme fee trends to optimize cost efficiency.
- Forecast financial exposure related to scheme fees and identify potential risks or optimization opportunities.
Operations & Controls
- Oversee end-to-end card scheme financial operations, including data feeds, fund flows, and settlement processes.
- Perform and manage daily reconciliations between processors and card schemes to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Support treasury-related activities, including monitoring and managing scheme-related fund positions.
- Design, implement, and improve operational controls required for scalable card scheme financial management.
- Ensure that internal operational processes are aligned with Visa and Mastercard requirements and expectations.
Pricing & Governance
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing optimization of pricing models across acquiring and issuing businesses.
- Maintain and enhance SOPs and internal controls related to card scheme financials and compliance processes.
- Act as the internal subject-matter expert and primary point of contact for all card-scheme financials and fee-related topics.
- Ensure effective internal coordination between Business, Finance, Treasury, Compliance, Risk, Product, Operations, and external card scheme stakeholders.
- Support internal governance around scheme-related financial decisions, including pricing changes, fee exposure, cost allocation, and profitability analysis.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in card scheme financials or fee analysis within acquiring and/or issuing institutions.
- Strong understanding of card scheme rules, fee structures, billing logic, and operating models.
- Experience working directly with Visa and Mastercard, including scheme representatives, operational teams, billing teams, or scheme-related support channels.
- Experience building processes, functions, or teams from scratch is highly preferred.
- Experience working with card schemes, regulators, and licensing processes, including scheme and regulatory licensing.
- Hands-on experience with multi-jurisdictional compliance, particularly within the UK and EU EMI frameworks, is considered a strong advantage.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex financial data and translate it into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
- Practical, solution-oriented approach, with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and operational discipline.
- Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable working independently in a remote, fast-paced, and international environment.
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on, from designing the function and team structure to managing day-to-day scheme financial operations.
